Terri Schindler-Schiavo - Fighting For Her Life

Terri Schindler-Schiavo is a young Florida woman who suffered brain damage following a mysterious collapse in her home in 1990. Her husband and sole guardian won a medical malpractice settlement on her behalf in 1992 that was intended to fund rehabilitation and continuing care for her. Instead of pursuing therapies, however, Mr. Schiavo petitioned the courts for the right to remove Terri's only physical dependency - a gastric feeding tube that provides her with food and water.

Doing so would cause Terri to die of dehydration and starvation over the course of many days. Terri's parents want to care for her but have been denied that right by the Florida courts. Mr. Schiavo is currently living with another woman and has two children with her, yet he refuses to divorce Terri and insists that she would prefer to be dehydrated and starved to death than live as a disabled individual.
